Tito "Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Ortiz

TITO
ORTIZ
Mixed Martial
Arts fighter, Tito Ortiz, is charismatic and spirited even
with his bad-boy image. The “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” dominates
his opponents with submission-style fighting. He uses Muay Thai to take the
fight to the mat and his ground punches bring fire and brimstone with ever strike.
He is a former light heavyweight champion with a mixed record; but few can deny
that Ortiz is a dominant face of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Ortiz
made his debut to the MMA world with UFC 13, in 1997. During this event he put
down Wes Albittron in the first round, but later lost to Guy Mezger. In a match
that Ortiz was undisputedly dominating, a miscalculation suddenly found the
young fighter in a submission hold he couldn’t recover from. This loss
didn’t slow this bad boy’s career. He came back to finish off Mezger
by TKO at UFC 19.
Only two years into the sport, Ortiz went toe to toe with the legendary Frank
Shamrock for the UFC middleweight title, though he lost by submission at UFC
22. But Shamrock shortly after retired, leaving the tile, now renamed the light
heavyweight, to be battled over by two new contenders. Ortiz was selected for
the shot along with Wanderlei Silva. In 2000, at UFC 25, Ortiz shook the Octogon
with a win for the belt. He went on to hold the title for an astounding three
year, defending it five times until he lost to Randy Couture.
Beyond the ring, Ortiz is a business man. He introduced Punishment Athletics
in 1999 to reflect the traing gear he wears, but it has evovled far beyond that.
His clothing line, like the man himself, has risen to success with time. The
clothing is not only fashionable, but also as durable as the fighter who puts
his name behind it.
